Grandma Kate made the BEST apple turnovers in the world I do believe. She used lard and they were perfect. At Easter, Grandma made sure all her grandkids, especially the girls, had beautiful dresses, hats, gloves and sometimes parasols.
So very memorable was her driving the large cars that they owned. She would have to look between the steering wheel and the dash to see to drive, both hands clutched firmly on the steering wheel. We often, teasingly, imitated her driving which always gained laughs.
