Charles Lee Strickland was the son of Charles Pinckney Strickland and Susie Barber Collins Strickland. He was born in the town of Arp, Smith County, Texas. He was the youngest of four children. His father was superintendent of schools in nearby Troup, Texas. By 1940 (census) the family had moved back to Alvin, Texas where they had lived previously. He attended Baylor University. He served in the US Army but saw no active duty. He was trained in artillery but served as company clerk and truck driver since he could type and drive trucks. He married Mary Lou Henderson. They made their home in Fort Worth, Texas. He was called "Lee" by his family of origin and "Charlie" later in life. He worked as an audio engineer and camera operator at KXAS-TV Channel 5 for most of his career. He was a lifelong Baptist. He passed away in Tarrant County Texas a few months after his wife, Mary Lou. They had no children but were survived by numerous neices and nephews.
