HARTSFIELD- Agatha Gay Cook Smith, 92, of Hartsfield, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Hartsfield Cemetery. Born September 13, 1924 in Hartsfield, she was the daughter of the late John Frank Gay and Katie Lee Rigsby Gay. She was a homemaker and was a member of Hartsfield United Methodist Church. She loved flowers and enjoyed bird watching. She wrote a column about Hartsfield, Ga. in the Moultrie Observer for many years titled "The Happenings of Hartsfield". She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.E. "Bill" Cook; her second husband, John Cleveland Smith; four brothers, Preston Gay, Waylon Gay, Rigsby Gay and John Frank Gay, Jr.; two sisters, Juanita McKinnon and Wylene Adranga. Survivors include one daughter, Lynda Cook Newton Norman and husband John of Norman Park; one son, John Aubrey Smith and wife Lynne of Hartsfield; six grandchildren, Robyn Newton Hughes and husband Rick, Brandon Newton and wife Darlene, Avery Norman, Denver Smith Coots and C.J., Ashley Moore and husband Matt and Trey Best; ten great-grandchildren, Erica Hughes Wirka and husband John, John Henry Hughes, Bryce Newton, Bradley Newton, Ada James Norman, Joseph Moore, Ava Mae Moore, Ledger Best, Preston Coots and Jerzie Coots; two sisters, Ruth Burroughs and Jean Holland both of Moncks Corner, S.C.; special niece, Patricia Bowles and husband Bucky of Fortson, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends after the service on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Moultrie/Colquitt County Humane Society, PO Box 2915, Moultrie, Ga. 31776. Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
