Rites Held for Mrs. Katie Gay
Final rites for Mrs Frank Gay Sr. were held Wednesday morning in Hartsfield Baptist Church with burial following in Liberty Hill cemetery in Mitchell County.
The Rev. Dan Williams and the Rev. LeRoy Richter officiated at the rites.
Active pallbearers were Wondell Webb, Gus Slocumb, Otis Hurst, Melvin Mims, Junior Perryman and Wendall Brown.
Mrs. Gay died Monday evening in a local rest home after a lengthy illness. She was 85 years of age.
A native of Mitchell County, she was born February 22, 1890 and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rigsby.
She had resided in the Hartsfield area for the past 60 years and was a member of Hartsfield Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Gay are two sons, Louis Waylon Gay of Thomasville and John Frank Gay of Tampa, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Juanita McKinnon of Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Annie Ruth Burroughs of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Wylene Adragna of Moultrie, Mrs. Agatha Smith of Hartsfield and Mrs. Sarah Jean Holland of Charleston, S. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Thomas of Marietta and Mrs. Docia Johnson of Tallahassee, Fla. Twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
