HAS GONE TO THE BRIGHTER WORLD
The Death Angel Claims Mrs. John H. Barton as His Victim
Surrounded By Loving Relatives and Friends She Quietly Passes Away.
The death of Mrs. John Barton yesterday was a surprise to her friends, although she had been somewhat of an invalid for a long time, but when the disease that had been sapping her vitality for years changed to the sure precursor of dissolution, quick consumption, her intimate friends knew there was no hope yet still when the blow came it was none the less felt by her large circle of acquaintances and friends.
The end came yesterday morning at 4 o’clock when, as quietly as a child drops off to sleep, the spirit took its departure. The deceased had been a resident of San Bernardino for 30 years, was a prominent member of St. Paul’s church and was beloved by all who knew her in church or social circles.
The deceased, Margaret M. Barton, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Garner and was born in McLeansburg (McLeansboro), Illinois, February 21, 1856. When she was but four years of age her parents moved overland in Montana and two years later came to San Bernardino, and this city has been her home ever since.
In 1879 the deceased, who was the third eldest of 10 children, was married to John H. Barton, one of the prominent men of the city. The union has been a most happy one and their home a model one. During their married life four children blessed their home, of which three survive the mother: Molita Barton, aged 18 years; Benjamin Barton, aged 16; and Emma Barton, aged 14. There was one more, Blanche, but it died in its infancy. Besides leaving a husband and three children to mourn her departure, the father and mother of the deceased, three brothers and four sisters remain to follow their beloved one to the tomb.
The funeral will be held from the family residence on D street tomorrow at 10 o’clock, Rev. J. W. Bain, D.D., officiating. The interment will take place in the family plot in the new cemetery by the side of those who have preceded her from the family circle to the other world.
