Phoebe Hazel Austin (known as Hazel) was born in Indian Creek, Bear Lake, Idaho to Newton Francis Austin and Annie Martha Nelson. She had four siblings: Lottie, Thomas Francis, Russell Dewitt, and Max Hugh. She moved to Cardston, Alberta, Canada in 1900 with her parents and siblings. Hazel married Spencer D. Cahoon June 3, 1920 in Lethbridge, Alberta. They had two children: Frances Thirza and Spencer Donald. In 1942, Hazel and her family moved to Toronto, Ontario. Hazel moved back to Calgary, Alberta in 1958. Hazel loved to golf and to play cards. She was playing golf with her friends when she had a stroke. She died in the hospital later that evening. Hazel was buried May 17, 1971 in Cardston, Alberta beside her daughter Frances.
