He had a medical problem with his eye sight, and self treated it with Yarrow, which is a weed, and was once used for some antiseptic purposes, which probably caused final blindness.

Know all men by these presents that I George Wilson Dukes of the County of Benton in the State of Missouri on this 13th day of July 1905 make my last Will & Testament as follows:
First I want all of my just debts to be paid out of my personal property, after that I give all that I own to my nephew, Lanson G Hurt
I George W Dukes hereby appoint Andrew VanHoozer as my executor[Andrew died in 1908]
I hereby certify that the above is my last Will & Testament
this the 13th day of July 1905

Cousin James Harvey Dukes took care of the estate, also cared for Lanson G Hurt, Julia's son Lanson until his death in 1911
