After his marriage he settled on a large farm located a short distance above Upper Village, Weld, on the road to Phillips, Maine. Here all his children were born and raised. He was a great lover of horses and made a specialty of breeding them for the race track, many of them always taking prizes at county and state fairs. One of the best of these was named Katie Belle from the
name of his oldest daughter. The family was awakened one night to find their largest set of buildings in flames and all were hastily driven from the houses some narrowly escaping. The family later moved to Phillips Village and
engaged in the hotel business. The children of William Stanwood4 Skolfield and Mary Ann Swett were:
i. Katherine Belle5 Skolfield was born 23 December 1864; married Irving William Hutchinson.
ii. Marietta Skolfield was born 6 September 1867; married Will Deck Quimby.
iii. William Stanwood Skolfield, Jr. was born 6 August 1869; married, first, Margery Lena Ross; they divorced. He married, second, Fronia May Peters.
iv. Clement Monroe Skolfield was born 29 August 1871; married, first, Ina Maud Swett;
married, second, Martha L. Conefrey.
v. Charles Thomas Skolfield was born 27 November 1873; married Millicent Richmond Noble; they subsequently divorced; married, second, Mildred (—). He went by the name
of Robert Charles Schofield
vi. Marcell Benjamin Skolfield was born 26 May 1876; married, first, Maggie Sophia Hinkley; married, second, Beatrice Elizabeth McPheters; married, third, Beatrice E. Hardacre. He spelled his last name Schofield.
vii. Almyra Lavinia Skolfield was born 4 November 1878; married Wentworth Viles Lander,
viii. Harriet Cordelia Skolfield was born 20 April 1881 in Weld, Maine; married, first, Frank H. Richardson on 5 October 1902 in Rangeley, Maine. They subsequently divorced. She married, second, Harry S. Dibden in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was employed by the
Cunnard Steamship Lines of Montreal. She died 10 June 1932 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and was buried there.
