Lucinda was the sixth of ten children born to Jeremiah Deane and Lucretia Haney Deane. (Jeremiah was the second-born and eldest son of James Thornton Dean of Dean Mountain in Virginia. Dean Mountain later became part of the Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park.) Lucinda grew up in the Swift Run Gap area of Greene County, Virignia, close to Stanardsville. Lucinda married James Breeden while still a young teenager and had a daughter, Sarah.

Lucinda's second husband was William Donovan. William's first wife was Nancy Deane, Lucinda's oldest sister.

Lucinda had nine children with William. It is known that they lived for a while in Hardy County, West Virginia, and that they resided in Shenandoah County, Virginia, at the time of her death. She died at 46 years of age.
