Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 27 Aug 1943
"Adam Brobst, the oldest resident of Canfield township and one of the oldest persons in Mahoning county, was found dead in bed Wednesday morning, having died in his sleep. Mr. Brobst celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 17 of this year and for several months had been very feeble. However, he was able to be up and sit in his chair a part of each day. His sight was almost gone, but his hearing had not failed and his mind was clear. Mr. Brobst was born near Smith's Corners, the son of Henry and Susana Brobst, who had come from Lehigh county, Pa., in 1826 with other Pennsylvania Dutch settlers. In 1863 he was married to Sarah Kline of Rosemont, who died 12 years ago. They had made their home on Turner Street for over 40 years. A family of seven children were born to them, of whom four survive – H. Elmer and Clyde E. Brobst and Mrs. Ida Cramer, all of Canfield, and Rev. Harry N. Brobst of Columbus. There are 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Pearl Bailey, died three years ago. In 1864 Mr. Brobst joined the Odd Fellows Lodge and it is probable that he was the oldest Odd Fellows both in point of age and years of membership in Ohio. He had been a farmer all his life."
