Pvt. Lewis J. Fisher, USMC, 29, was killed in action on Iwo Jima February 27, the Navy Department has informed his wife, Mrs. Donna Fisher, 3715 North Twenty-Third Street.

A graduate of the Davenport (Neb.)High School, he was employed by the Cudahy Packing Company before entering the service in March, 1944.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carol; sons Lewis, Jr. and Kenneth: Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Fisher; Davenport; brothers, William, USN; Joseph, West Columbia, Tex.; Walter, Davenport, Neb. and Victor, Lincoln, Neb., and a sister, Mrs. Loretta Nelson, Houston, Cal.

Pvt. Lewis Joseph Fisher, Sr., son of Quintin and Mabel Fisher, was born February 12, 1916, near Davenport, Neb. He attended grade school in District 53, Fillmore County, finishing his education at Davenport high school in 1933.

One year later he went to Omaha to work. He was married there to Donna M. Frost April 27, 1937. He lived there until he volunteered to join the Marines March 28, 1944, and served in the Pacific area with the 5th Marine division.

He departed this life February 27, 1945, on the island of Iwo Jima at the age of twenty-nine. He left to mourn his death, his wife, two sons, Lewis Joseph and Kenneth Thomas; one daughter, Carol Louise of Omaha; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Quintin Fisher of Ong; one sister, Mrs. Loretta Nelson of Patterson, Cal.; four brothers, Walter of Davenport, Joseph of Graham, Tex., William and Victor of Hastings, Neb.

Lewis was a kind and loving husband, father and son, and one of the many who made the supreme sacrifice for his country in World War II.

Re-interment services were held Sunday at the Davenport funeral home and the Davenport Cemetery, with Legion officers in charge.
