He was a heavy equipment operator, a member of the First Baptist Church in Hico, a member of the National Guard. He graduated from high school in Iredell and owned a bar-b-que restaurant in Hico for many years.
Survived by his wife - Rhonda Bateman; three daughters; his mother - Opal Bateman; two sisters - Dorothy Holub, Rose Berdami; three brothers - Steve Bateman, Bert Bateman, Wayne Bateman.
