Walter E. Gilbert, 78, of Chester, IL, died February 7, 2006 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, IL.

The son of Osceola M. and Mary A. (Maupin) Gilbert, he was born February 12, 1927 in Farrell, MS.

On August 25, 1957, he married Ruby Mae Kirkover in Chester, IL.

Walter worked for the City of Chester as Water Superintendent. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Chester, IL, and he belonged to AFSCME, the American Legion Alva Courier Post #487, and was a member of the Chester Fire Department for many years.

Survivors include his wife of Chester, IL; two sons-Kevin (Denise) Gilbert of Carol Stream, IL and Randy (Angie) Gilbert of Chester, IL; one daughter, Cynthia Gilbert of Evansville, IL; one brother, Jim Gilbert of Memphis, TN; four sisters-Nollie Davis of Como, MS, Alice Belenchia of Philadelphia, MS, Esther Vaughan of Cordova, TN, and Hazel Davis of Como, MS; three grandsons-Robert Hill, Matthew Gilbert, Zachary Gilbert; three granddaughters-Stacey Stitz, Alina Carner, Melanie Gilbert; three great grandchildren-Jacob Hill, Evan Stitz, Reagan Carner. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, infant twins Ronnie and Rhonda Gilbert; three brothers-Osceola Gilbert, John Amos Gilbert, & Aubrey Gilbert; and one sister, Mary Nell.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 10, 2006 at Schroeder-McClure Funeral Chapel, Chester, IL, with Dr. Mike Fogerson officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 10, 2006 for 78 year old Walter Gilbert of Chester, IL who passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Chester, IL.

He was born February 12, 1927 in Farrell, MS, the son of Oceola and Mary (Maupin) Gilbert. He married Ruby Mae Kirkover on August 25, 1957 in Chester, IL and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kevin of Carol Stream, IL and Randy of Chester, IL. One daughter, Cynthia Gilbert of Evansville, IL. One brother, Jim Gilbert of Memphis, TN. Four sisters, Nollie Davis and Hazel Davis of Como, MS, Alice Belenchia of Philadelphia, MS and Esther Vaughan of Cordova, TN.

Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Friends are calling after 5pm Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Schroeder McClure Funeral Chapel in Chester, IL.

Funeral services for Walter Gilbert will be Friday, February 10, 2006 at 11am from the Schroeder McClure Funeral Chapel in Chester, IL with Rev. Mike Fogerson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
