FARRELL - John Amos Gilbert, 68, warden of Ward Lake Hunting Club, retired Farrell farmer and former Coahoma County Justice of the Peace, died Sunday, July 26, 1987, at Methodist Hospital of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at National Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Pruitt of Farrell and the Rev. Lucius Marion of Clarksdale officiating. Burial with Masonic service will be in the Gilbert Family Cemetery in Farrell.
Born March 16, 1919, in Farrell, he was the son of the late O. M. and Mary Alice Maupin Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert graduated from Friars Point High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Farrell Baptist Church, a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher.
His survivors include his widow, Mrs. Amy Cole Gilbert of Farrell; three sons, John Allen Gilbert of Tupelo, Jerry Amos Gilbert of Oaklawn, Ill., and Meyer Gilbert of Farrell; a step-daughter, Mrs. Vickie Rinhart of Memphis, Tenn.; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Nell, Mrs. Esther Vaughn and Mrs. Hazel Davis, all of Memphis, Mrs. Nollie Davis of Sardis and Mrs. Alyce Belenchia of Clarksdale; three brothers, Aubrey Gilbert of Farrell, Jimmy Gilbert of Memphis, and Walter Gilbert of Chester, Ill.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
