Death of Elliot Sloas
Elliot Sloas died at his home at 5:30 a.m., February 8, 1940, at the age of 85 years and 14 days. He was born in Virginia in 1855. When a small boy, his family moved to Kentucky, from Kentucky to Ohio until 1868. Their home in 1869 was in Texas. In 1871 they came to Missouri, and the rest of his life has been spent in New Madrid County.
March 4, 1884, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Willis. Eight children were born, Henry Clay, Willis Clifford, Jesse James, Robert Edward, Charles Hamilton, Carrie Eliot, Daisy Belle, Felix Gordon. Five of them now survive his death, Clifford, Robert E., and Jesse James have gone before him. He left twenty grandchildren. He was a prosperous farmer in New Madrid County until his age and health forced him to retire in 1913. He had remained at his home in Marston since.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. in the Methodist Chruch by Rev Herman Wagner.
Interment being made in the New Hop Cemetery.
