Arthur A. Friberg, 71, was paper worker
WESTMINSTER – Arthur A. Friberg, 71, of 332 South Ashburnham Road, died Saturday Feb. 1, in his home.
He was born July 1, 1920, in Westminster, son of John and Wilhelmina (Lappaniemi) Friberg, and later lived in Fitchburg before returning to Westminster in 1950. He was a 1938 graduate of Fitchburg High School.
Mr. Friberg was a millwright and pipefitter at the former Weyerhaeuser Paper Co. and the former James River Paper Co., where he worked 44 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Friberg was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European-African-Middle East Theatre.
He was a member of the Aurora Lodge of Mason, Fitchburg, and American Legion, Ashburnham Post 142, South Ashburnham.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Katherine J. (Savola) Friberg; a son, Jon M. Friberg of Ashburnham; a daughter, Lynn Schuetter of Golden, Colo; three brothers, Frank Friberg of Westminster, Eino Friberg of Cambridge and Wiljo Friberg of Gardner; a sister, Edith Rudziak of Westminster, and nephews and nieces.
The funeral burial will be private. There will be no calling hours.
The Westminster Chapel of Sawyer-Miller Funeral Homes, 123 Mian St., is directing arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Finnish-American Club of Saima, P.O. Box 30, Fitchburg 01420.
