Edward A. Canning

Edward Albert Canning, 92, of Marco Island, Fla., died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2005, in Heritage Healthcare Center, Naples, Fla. He was born in Bethlehem on October 4, 1912, to Albert Canning and Marie Bill. He graduated, from Liberty High School and was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. for more than 40 years. He was general foreman of the central tool division upon his retirement in 1978 and was a master craftsman and mechanical genius, able to fix or repair anything. After residing in Bethlehem for 88 years, he moved to Marco Island with his wife in 2000 to be near his daughters and enjoy fishing. He was married for 70 years to Cecelia Collins Canning, who passed away March 6.

Survivors: Daughters, Patricia (John) Matthews of Marco Island, Constance (Robert) Golden of Boca Raton, Fla.; granddaughters, Maria (Jason) Lea Chandler of New York City, Alexis (Wade) C. Myers and Samantha Golden, both of Denver, Colo.; great-granddaughters, Katherine Blake Chandler, Brianna, Rain Myers.

Services: A memorial service for both Mr. and Mrs. Canning will be held Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 S. Barfield Drive, Marco Island. Arrangements, Fuller Funeral Home, Naples.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church 34145 or Edgeboro Moravian Church, 645 Hamilton Ave., Bethlehem 18017.
