Thomas Gerard Taffe, age 74, well known Dushore resident, passed away on Thursday evening, March 3, 2005 at the Robert Packer Hospital, after a brief illness. Tom was born in Wilmot Township, on Jan. 19, 1931, a son of the late Thomas R. and Margaret Farley Taffe. He began working at Corning Glass in Corning, NY and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Shirley Setzer of Mildred on Aug. 21, 1954; they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2004. Tom worked for the Dushore Creamery until it closed and then purchased the former Jewel Box in Dushore, which he operated for many years. He also operated Taffes newsstand for many years. Tom was a lifelong trapper and beekeeper. He trapped throughout Sullivan and Bradford Counties. He was a member of St. Basils Catholic Church in Dushore and was a member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore. He was also a member of the White Ash Land Association and a member of the Eastern Delaware Nation and the PA Trappers Association. Surviving are his spouse, Shirley, at home; two sons: John Taffe, Dushore, Mike Taffe, Mehoopany; daughter-in-law, Debra Taffe, Spring Lake, NC; brother and friend, Richard (Red Ball) Taffe and Mary Rohe, Dushore, sisters and brothers-in-law: Peggy and John Hoodak, Dushore, Rose and Mike Gregori, Dushore, Catherine (Dee Dee) and Jack Charnitski, Mildred; brother-in-law: Ray Lewis, Towanda; five grandchildren, Shaura Acla, Glendale, AZ, Kimberly Crawford, Spring Lake, NC, Susan Taffe, Dushore, Dylan and Elliot Taffe, Spring Lake, NC; three great-grandchildren: James, Cassidy and Ryleigh; three great step-grandchildren: Beth, Kiersten and Sara and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Taffe on Jan. 29, 1979 and a son, Joseph G. Taffe on Aug. 12, 2004, and a sister, Susan Lewis.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and were followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basils Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, his pastor, presiding. Interment was in St. Basils Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday, March 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside Military Service were accorded by member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore. Members passed in review on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
