Shirley Joan Thompson, age 85, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Shirley was born August 15, 1938 in Illinois, the daughter of Henry Porter and Sarah Lela (McKinny) England. She was united in marriage to Rollin Jean "Sonny" Thompson on April 8, 1956 in Mexico, MO. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2003.
Shirley is survived by three children, Connie Sample (Corey) of Columbia, MO, Sherry Kay Cuno of Holts Summit, MO, and Gary Thompson of Shelbina, MO; ten grandchildren, Hope Moore (Leroy), Aaron Walbrecht (Suni), Lance Walbrecht, Brandon Cuno, Skyler Cuno, Ariel Guillen (Pablo), Morghan Bulson (Derik), Meghan Rackers (Eric), Colby Thompson, and Josh Thompson; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and one brother, Robert England (Patty) of Shreveport, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rollin "Sonny"; three sons, Rollin Thompson II, Rodney Thompson, and Jimmie Thompson; two brothers, Charles England and Boyce England; and two sisters, Frances Snyder and Stella Pound.
Shirley was a member of the Shelbyville Christian Church and an active participant in the Stitchin' Friends Sharing Hope sewing group at the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, cross stitching, cooking and traveling. Her greatest joy was getting to spend time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Funeral services will be at 12 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2023, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes in Shelbina, MO. Burial will follow the service in Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville, MO. Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Stitchin' Friends Sharing Hope.
