Betty Porter McCrea of Cherryville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, in her 98th year. She was the daughter of the late Frederick (Ted) and Helena Welch Porter of Bloomsbury, NJ.
Born in Bloomsbury on April 15, 1925, she was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, class of 1943. She was married for forty-three years to the late William B. McCrea. She was previously employed by the New Jersey Telephone Company and by ACME Markets in Flemington. She was later the receptionist at the Hunterdon County Administration Building in Flemington, for many years until her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. McCrea was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church, the Franklin Township Senior Center, the Golden Dance Group, and the Lucky Seven Card Club. She also served as treasurer of the Cherryille Mountain View Cemetery Association for many years, carrying on a family tradition.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Frederick Jr., and Dale Porter; her sister, Jean Porter Huff; and grandson, William Warren Sondervan, Jr.

Some of her ashes were buried with her parents Frederick & Helena Porter in Greenwich Cemetery on April 15, 2024, her birthday.
