According to his mother Helena's journals, Frederick died from "Summer Consumption" and was buried in Greenwich Cemetery on Oct. 4, 1922.

What we know about Summer Consumption today is that it was caused by tainted barley. In 1922 you would buy a 10 pound bag of barley from the mill and grind it up and put it in the baby's bottle. The burlap bag would be returned to the mill when it was empty. The burlap bag or the barley itself was tainted. The cure for Summer Consumption was lots of ground barley. The sicker Frederick got the more tainted Barley he was given.
