Emery J. Bares, a native of Erath, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the age of 91. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionally called him "Papa".

Emery graduated from Erath High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He honorably served in the U.S. Army National Guard of Louisiana in 1951, followed by service in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 through 1955.

He is survived by his children Stephanie Krouse (Alan), Lisa Musso (Jerril), Barry Bares (Beth), Damon Bares and Carolyn Bourque (Wade); 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Emery is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Llewellyn "Lou" LeBlanc Bares; his parents, John and Onida Bares; and siblings Agnes Richard, Eno Bares, Emmett Bares and Allen Bares.

Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Pallbearers will be Lucas Johnson, Austin Gautreau, Ben Bares, Adam Bourque, Brayden Musso, Alan Krouse, Jerril Musso and Wade Bourque. Honorary pallbearers will be Oliver Johnson, August Manalac and James Manalac.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to either Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
