"JEROME VAN GORDON DIES AT MAYFIELD. Deceased Crossed the Plains in 1846 With the Donner Party.
Jerome Van Gordon, aged 77 years, and 10 months, of Mayfield, died today after a brief illness. He came to Mayfield seven years ago from Watsonville. He was among the early California pioneers, having crossed the plains in 1846, at the same time as the Donner party, and settled at Mission San Jose. He was a native of Illinois. He leaves a wife and three children Mrs. C. J. Evans and Geo. E. Van Gordon of Mayfield, and Fred Van Gordon of Visalia. The funeral will be held Monday [December 16] at 1:30 p.m. in Mayfield, and interment will be at Alta Mesa."
