Jim passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023 in Spokane, Washington.
Jim was born the middle of five children to Minnie Julia (Bartman) and Glenn Harold Ashbaugh on November 16, 1935 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Jim and his family moved to Colville when he was a few months old, where he later graduated from Colville High School in 1953. Jim worked for 46 years in the grocery industry before retiring in 1999. Jim resided in Yuma, Arizona for 12 winters with his wife Rusty before settling back to the Spokane area full time in 2011 to be near their families. Jim was known for his green thumb for tomato plants and made delicious fruit salads whenever he had the chance. He was also a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles #3433 (Sprague Ave in Greenacres). Jim spent 2 1⁄2 years at Ridgeview Place before being transferred over to Janeluv Adult Family Home for the last six months of his life. Jim was predeceased in death by his wife Rusty, parents: Glenn and Minnie, sister: Barb Baxter, brothers: Bill and John, stepson-in-law: Jay Simpson, and grandson Ryan Sannes.
Jim leaves behind a sister, three children, two children-in-laws, four stepchildren, and one stepson-in-law. Jim also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and former neighbors.
The family would like to thank Ridgeview Place and Janeluv, especially Tanya and Nitko from Janeluv for the love and support for Jim during his final days.
There will be a celebration of life picnic for Jim sometime next year in the spring or summer.
