Aaron Wood Atkisson, age 89 of Raymondville, Texas County, Missouri, passed away October 10th, 2023, in Mercy Hospital Springfield MO. Aaron was born December 19th, 1933, to his parents James William "Bill" Atkisson and Tressie (Wood) Atkisson. He was happily married to his soulmate Margaret Elizabeth (Grogan) Atkisson from Elk Creek MO for fifty-four years. Aaron graduated from Houston High School class of 1951 and continued his education at SMSU after serving four years active duty in the US Army. Aaron retired after forty years with Nationwide Papers downtown Springfield. He was also an active Free Mason and Abou Ben Adhem Shriner for over forty years and served in the Directors Staff dedicated to supporting the Shriners Children's Hospitals. Aaron was "one-of-a-kind" and enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his family and friends, was a car guy, enjoyed teaching many people how to water ski on Table Rock Lake, enjoyed ballroom dancing, was a past president for Beaux Bells and Starlight Debonaire Dance Clubs, and a member of Top of The Town Dance Club. Aaron was also long-time member of Kings Way United Methodist Church.
Aaron was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Tressie, wife Margaret, son Steven Aaron at a young age of 33, sisters Billie, Marcie, Peggy, and brother Blain. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Kirk Atkisson, Lt Col, USAF, daughter-in-law Melanie Coldewey, daughter-in-law Sandy Rhoades, three grandchildren, Matthew Aaron (Steve's son), Evan Christian and Lauren Elize (Jeff's children), twin brother Edward, sister-in-law Carol Eaton (Grogan), close friend and part of the family Shirley Hamilton, and five great grandchildren from Matthew and Lindsey. His fifth great grandchild was born on the same day after he passed away.
There will be a memorial service with Military and Free Mason Honors for Aaron and Margaret at 11:00am on the 21st of November 2023, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood Road, Springfield, MO, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in their honor to the Shriners Hospital for Children at www.shrinerschildrens.org
