Edna Irene Schwartz, 82, of Sturgis, MI, died at 2:10 pm on Friday, November 10 at The Sparrow House, Sturgis, MI. She was born on March 31, 1941, in Traverse City, MI, to Daniel and Fannie (Kauffman) Bontrager. On June 21, 1959, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Findley, MI, she married Chris Schwartz, he survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are daughter, Janice (Martin) Polo of Tampa, FL; three sons, Bruce Schwartz of Bristol, Wayne (Michelle) Schwartz of Cape Coral, FL, Rick (Jennifer) Schwartz of Nappanee; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Dan (Brenda) Bontrager of Middlebury; sister-in-law, Sue Bontrager of White Pigeon, MI; brother-in-law, Dale Mast of Batesville, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, LeRoy, Erie, Willis, Ora, Omer, and Theodore Bontrager; two sisters, Katie Albrecht and Velma Mast. Edna was a homemaker and a babysitter prior to working at McDonald's in Sturgis, MI for 19 years, where she was the manager for 10 years. She was also a seamstress, cake decorator and helped her husband grout bathrooms for his business. Edna went back to school and graduated high school in 1979, the same year as her oldest son Bruce. She was currently a member of Clinton Frame Church and previously a longtime member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church. Edna sang in the choir at both churches for a total of 45 years. She also was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher at Locust Grove Mennonite Church. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 16 at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 CR 35 Goshen. There will be a celebration of life service at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 17 also at Clinton Frame Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Russell Jensen. Burial will be in Clinton Frame Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
