Merlin Conder, a sixth-generation descendant of Utah Pioneers, died Aug. 4 at his home in Bull Head City, Ariz. He was born Dec. 18, 1936 in American Fork, Utah, to Albert and Clara Conder.
After High School he served a tour in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, after which he worked for Lehi Refractory, and for the U.S. Government at Dugway Proving Grounds, from which he retired in 1998.
He loved the outdoors. While living in Arizona, as well as Utah, he spent much of his free time hunting and fishing, as well as a lot of target practicing. He kept in touch with all of his relatives as well as his many friends.
He is survived by his former wife, Alice Conder and a son, HM2 Eric N. Conder, stationed on the USS Bataan at Norfolk, Va.; stepchildren, James Lamper, American Fork, Utah; Judi Lamper, Oasis, Nev. and Jodi Landry, Houston, Texas; brothers, Guy Conder, Lodi, Calif, and Lloyd Conder, Eureka, Utah.
Memorial services will be held at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary in American Fork, Thursday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. Internment will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
