Myrtle E. Thompson, 82, of Tenstrike, formerly of Warroad, Minn., died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Meadowlands Eldercare Home in Tenstrike.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., with an 8 p.m. prayer service, Thursday at the Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Warroad.
She was born June 6, 1925, to Gunda (Uggen) and Fritz Carlson at the Angle Inlet, Minn. She attended school from first through eighth grade at Angle Inlet. She graduated from Warroad High School in 1944, and attended the Crookston Agricultural College for one year. She worked at the Warroad Pioneer for 30 years as a linotypist, writer, proofreader, bookkeeper, photographer and editor. She married Maynard Thompson May 12, 1945, in Baudette, Minn. They lived on a farm south of Warroad for 55 years. She lived in the Meadowlands Eldercare facility in Tenstrike for seven years.
She loved to watch sports, especially when her own children and grandchildren played. She enjoyed spending time at the Northwest Angle with her family. When she was young, she loved horseback riding, camping, swimming, ice-skating, trapping, hunting and being in the woods. Her adult hobbies were cake decorating, sewing, gardening, reading and photography.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad and the Clear River Ladies Aid. She was a 4-H Club leader for 20 years, a member of the Community Education Board for Warroad Schools, and Parent-Teacher Association and room mother for her children while in elementary school.
She is survived by her children, Joyce (Richard) Siegert of Bemidji, Arnold Thompson of Angle Inlet, Jeffrey (Evi) Thompson of Bemidji, Bill Thompson of Warroad, Karla Tansey of Houston, Texas, and Kathy (Dan) Domeier of Bemidji; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Peterson of Angle Inlet; and brother, Bill Carlson of Watertown, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth, Maynard, Norman, Glen; sister, Beatrice Frolander; and sons, Gary and David Anthony.
