George Robert Hinkle, 67, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at the Diamond Willow Personal Care Home, after a two year battle with colon cancer.
George was born on July 6, 1939, in Billings, to John Hinkle Sr. and Anna (Finer) Hinkle. He attended Billings Senior High, joined the Navy in March, 1957, and was honorably discharged in October, 1962.
Following his discharge, he returned to Billings, where he married Linda Stone on May 29, 1963, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He joined the Billings Fire Department in 1966 and retired in 1992 after 26 years of dedicated service. He built three houses and was the owner of his own woodworking business, Country Oak.
After retiring from the fire department, George and Linda traveled south for the winters, living in Parker, Ariz., and Big River, Calif., for the next 13 years. They returned to Billings full-time in May 2005.
George was a lifetime member of the Huntley Trap Club and a member of the American Legion Post #4. He enjoyed trapshooting, golfing, fishing, woodworking and teasing his three granddaughters.
