Ernest L. Bevins
August 5, 1924 — August 3, 2023

Ernest L. Bevins of McConnell died August 3, 2023, just two days shy of his 99th birthday.

Ernie was born August 5th, 1924, in Pike County, KY, the second of four sons, to the late Willie and Sadie Bevins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ilene; brothers, Irvin, Tom Dick, and Estil, and his daughter-in-law, Teresa Bevins.

In the summer of 1942 following his graduation from Belfry High School, Ernie answered his country's call as part of our greatest generation, serving in the United States Army Pacific Theater until being honorable discharged in the fall of 1945. In addition to loving his family, Ernie's passions were the First Presbyterian Church of Logan, where he was a faithful member for over 60 years, serving many years as the church treasurer, and a member of the Chancel Choir; his meticulous skills as a vegetable gardener; and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Ernie is survived by his sons, Gene, and his wife Stephanie of Logan; Larry of Barboursville; and daughter-in-law, Sue of Crooked Creek. He was a much loved "papaw" to Lauren Cline, her husband Isaac, and their children, Ernie, Mable, Sidney, and Morris, all of Lenoir City, TN, Kathryn Podunavac, her husband Brian, and their children, Annabella, and Karson of McConnell; Rebekah Huff, her husband Jon, and their son, Nolan of Richmond, KY, and Jonathan Bevins of Pigeon Roost.

The family requests friends of Ernie to respect their wishes for a private service and suggest those wishing to pay their respects do so with memorials to the Central United Baptist Church or the First Presbyterian Church of Logan.
