Docia Belle Smith of Willcox died April 6, 2008 at the age of 93. Docia Belle was born in Rotan, Texas on March 12, 1915, to James Warren and Jessie Z. (Reding) Adair.
She married Reuben Benjamin "R.B." Smith in 1933, in Crosbyton, Texas where he farmed with his father. In 1953 they moved to Willcox and resided there for 44 years. They loved Willcox and had many friends. Docia Belle was a member of the Stewart Homemakers, Northern Cochise Hospital Auxiliary and for a short time, cook at the hospital.
She is survived by her sons Alton Smith of Willcox and Jim (Marlene) Smith of Loma, Colo.; and her daughters LaNell (John) Payne of Safford and Gayle (Elbert) Layton of Central, along with 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Blanche Ward of Cochise, Robbie Kuykendall of Las Cruces, N.M. and Cathryn Paris of North Highlands, Calif.; and her brother Arthur (Nancy) Clark of North Highlands, Calif. Preceding her in death was her husband R.B. on Jan. 29, 2005, and her parents.
A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 12, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the home of Elbert and Gayle Layton, in Central, Ariz. Contributions may be made in Docia Belle's name to the Northern Cochise Nursing Home, 901 W. Rex Allen Dr., Willcox, AZ 85643. Cremation under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox, Ariz.
