Debby was born in Somerset, Kentucky on Wednesday, December 12th, 1951, daughter of the late Robert Eugene "Bob" Gleason and Hollis Ruth Butt Gleason. She was a 1969 graduate of Somerset High School, where she played the coronet as a member of the Briar Jumpers marching band. After high school she attended vocational college and was an employee of the Virginia Cinema where she met her husband, Darrell Lyons. She also worked for Bob Kidd's Southern Tire for several years and was later employed at Paul Wesley Bookkeeping, where she kept books for several local businesses. She went back to college at Somerset Community College and earned her associate's degree in the arts and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa honors society. She graduated with honors in 2008.
Debby was a woman of great intellect and had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader and enjoyed mystery novels, was a super fan of the band Queen, lover of animals and was blessed with the ability to be able to make people laugh, even in difficult times. She loved her soul mate, Darrell, as well as her family and friends.
Debby was survived by her loving husband of 49+ years, William "Darrell" Lyons, whom she married at 7:00 p.m. at Duke Memorial Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky on Saturday, December 29th, 1973; two brother-in-laws, Gary Dewayne (and Sarah) Lyons and Bobby (and Diana) Lyons; one aunt, Phyllis Butt; three nephews, Jeremy Lyons, Joseph Lyons, and Richard Scott Lyons; two nieces, Melody (and Kevin) Hintz and Jessica Brainard; several great nieces and great nephews; her best friend of many years, Kay Lyons; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing and miss her love and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Eugene Gleason, who departed this life on July 14th, 1993; her mother, Hollis Ruth Gleason, who departed this life on May 9th, 2016; her paternal grandparents, Levia Ellen Dugger Gleason, who departed this life on August 24th, 1967 and Mike Marsdon Gleason Sr., who departed this life on May 31st, 1964; her maternal grandparents, Beatrice Wesley Butt, who departed this life on August 24th, 1980 and Mitchel Butt, who departed this life on December 13th, 1973; three aunts, Mildred Elizabeth "Betty" Butt Godbey, who departed this life on January 16th, 2014, Grace Gleason Colyer, who departed this life on January 6th, 1997, and Bertha Lenora Gleason Roberts, who departed this life on April 2nd, 1981; three uncles, Ronald Butt, who departed this life on August 21st, 2015, Estill "Satch" Godbey Jr., who departed this life on October 1st, 2000, and William Jackson "Jack" Gleason, who departed his life on July 15th, 1979; her father and mother-in-law, William "Henry" Lyons, who departed this life on August 12th, 2001 and Roxie May Bland Lyons, who departed this life on March 15th, 2013; and one sister-in-law, Deborah Ann "Debbie" Lyons Whittaker, who departed this life on April 26th, 2016.
Visitations were held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte and Bro. David Bullock officiating.
Musical selections were: Who Wants to Live Forever -performed by Queen. Sprit in the Sky - performed by Norman Greenbaum, Carry on my Wayward Son - preformed by Kansas, and Somebody to Love - preformed by Queen.
Her good friend Michelle Godbey read the poem "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep" - written by Mary Elizabeth Frye.
