Lloyd D. "L.A." Adams, 68, of Springfield died Thursday, Dec.

31, 1998, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of Joe W. and Viola L. Turner Adams. He married Rita M. Archie in 1968. Mr. Adams, a resident of Springfield for 61 years, retired in 1994 from the U.S. Post Office after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. John AME Church, Otis B. Duncan American Legion Post 809, graduate of Lanphier High School and was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving in the Korean War.

Survivors: wife, Rita M.; three sons, David Wheatley and Kenny J. Washington, both of Springfield, and Rev. Clifford Wheatley of Zion; a stepdaughter, Jerwonia Fitzgerald of Springfield; a stepson, Stephen Archie of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Sam (wife, Donna) Adams; two sisters, Darnice Adams and Ruth Hickman, both of Springfield; an aunt; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: noon Wednesday, St. John AME Church, the Rev. Sammy L. Hooks officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.

W.W. White-Pettiford Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
