ORONO—Ralph Maurice Modery, 68, died here at his home at 87 Park Street Sunday after a long illness.

Born in Hudson, January 25, 1899, he was the son of the late Charles and Ida (Lounsbury) Modery. A veteran of world War I, he has been a resident Orono all his life. At the time of his retirement he was employed by the Orono School Department.

He was a past master of Mechanics Lodge (AF and AM) of Orono, a 32nd Degree Mason, a past commander and life-time member of OHMH Post, American Legion, of Orono, a member of the Veterans of World War I, Penobscot Barracks of Bangor, Past Grand Chemoit Voiture, Forty and Eight, Penobscot County, past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, a charter member of the Orono Police Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Hattie (Cole) Modery, of Orono; three sons, Donald M. and Charles S., both of Orono, and Robert R. of Bangor; one daughter, Miss Alice M Modery of Orono; three brothers, Harold of Philadelphia, Pa., Clarence of Skowhegan, and Albert of Hyattsville, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Alice Carson of Grey; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Orono Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen J. Broyles, pastor of the Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Orono. Friends may call at the Joseph R. LaBeau Funeral Home, 72 Main Street, Orono, from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial services by the OHMH Post, American Legion will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial services by Mechanics Lodge, AF & AM will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
