Born in Waverly, son of the late Leroy and Gladys Deats Clark, he was a 1939 graduate of Scott High School. Amos was a general grocer. Heavily involved in the food industry for most of his life, he was the owner and operator of Justus Banner Foods, Clarks Banner Foods and Clarks Natural Foods of Old Forge. Amos was also the co-founder of Derma Sciences Inc., of Old Forge, which was recently acquired by Integra Life Sciences Corp.
He served as the auditor for Scott Twp. and belonged to the Justus Fire Department. A director of the Barber Shop Organization for nearly 42 years, he was also the founder of the Travel Tones Quartet. Amos was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and also belonged to the Clarks Summit American Legion – Joseph Bailey Post.
Charity work and community involvement was a large portion of his life. Amos was a sixth generation descendant of the founding father of Clarks Summit and Clarks Green, Deacon William Clark. He was a longtime member of the Moosic United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his son, Lester Clark, of Scott Twp.; his three stepsons, John Borthwick, of Florida; Robert Borthwick and Gary Borthwick, both of Clarks Summit; his sister, Elizabeth Dodgson, of Binghamton, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Clark and Merle Clark; and two sisters, Helen Silfee and Lavina Lewis.
Private funeral services were held in Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, by the Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora. Interment with military honors followed in the Old Forge Cemetery.
