Janie Elizabeth was the daughter of Miles Monroe and Effie Rebecca (McClure) Biggs. Her siblings were: Cicero Cinsannatti (1849-1917), Lyckurgus Daniel (1852-1870), John (1859-1867), and Rebecca Jane (1876-1880). Janie married John William Matthews on June 3, 1874 in Caldwell Co., Texas. John and Janie's children were: Lillian Derina (Apr.28,1875-Oct.10,1880), twin sons born and died on Sept. 8, 1879. The twin sons were buried on the Miles Monroe home place. At the time of their birth Janie and John must have been living close to or with her parents. The creek was flooded at the time, so the twins were buried about a 100 yards from their home.
Sometime after Janie's death in 1879, John married Henrietta Smith (a friend of the Biggs" family). John died in April 1889, and is buried in a church cemetery in Smith County, Texas.
