Mrs. MAUDE IRENE (JERNIGAN) BROADNAX was the daughter of Abraham "Abe" Jernigan and Mrs. Hattie May (Abercrombie) Jernigan.

Obituary
"Services for Maude Irene Broadnax, 76, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2003, at New Boggy Baptist Church, in Bethany, Louisiana. Rev. Lonnie Hamilton will officiate. Interment will follow at New Boggy Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at Good Samaritan Funeral Home, at 2200 Laurel Street, Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mrs. Broadnax went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2003, after a lengthy illness. She was born June 5, 1926, in Bethany, Louisiana, to Hattie Abercrombie and Abraham Jernigan. She attended Marshall public schools and, at an early age, she joined New Boggy Baptist Church. She later joined St. Mary Baptist Church and Canaan Baptist Church, in Marshall, where she served as Missionary President, Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and soloist with the choir. She was a member of the Texas & Louisiana Baptist Association and the Order of Eastern Star organization.

Mrs. Broadnax was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Leon Broadnax Sr.; six brothers, Thomas Jernigan, Arthur Jernigan, Booker T. Jernigan, Marcellus Jernigan, Norman Jernigan and Solomon Jernigan; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Golden and Mrs. Ida M. Morris; and one son, Leon Broadnax Jr.

Mrs. Jernigan is survived by 10 children, Myra K. Jernigan, Jasper Jernigan Sr. (Mary), Armenta Jernigan Linnear (Milton), Frances Jernigan Haynes (Donnie), Wesley J. Broadnax, Tamela Broadnax McFarland (Edward), Robert Earl Broadnax (Bonnie), Angela Frank and Mae McFarland; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Mae Cooper (Rodney); and one brother, Oscar Jernigan (Essie). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the loving and caring providers at Marshall Regional Hospital, Good Shepherd Hospital and Hospice of Tyler."
