Mrs. Darnell had been employed with various commission firms at the St Joseph Stock Exchange Building. During World War II, she worked in the records department of the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., and then as secretary to the director of the War and Labor Board in Atchison, Kan.
Born in St Joseph on July 11, 1905, she lived in Atchison for four years and in St Joseph for most of her life. She was a graduate of Benton High School in St Joseph.
Mrs. Darnell was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was active in various capacities. She was a charter member of the Lover's Lane chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
On May 19, 1928, she married Harry E. Darnell in Olathe, Kan. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter, Nancy D. Hughes of Park Ridge, Ill., and a grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary A. Darnell; her parents, John P. and Annis Anthony; a brother, John Anthony; and two sisters, Lenore Cook and Faye Sherman.
