Sarah Ellen operated a grist mill, raised her family and also performed midwife duties in the small community of Pigeon Roost, Mitchell County, NC. The flood washed away the grist mill down the stream. She also was a bee-keeper and was quite known for her honey. Her son, John Henry had in his possession an old wooden hive that belonged to her. There are many references to her in the writings of Harvey Miller of the 'Pigeon Roost News'. Harvey was the nephew of Nora Barnett Arrowood, John Henry's wife.
Sarah Ellen married Samuel Augustus Arrowood. After his death, she married David Miller. He was known as "Cripple Dave" Miller from injuries that he sustained in the war. Five children were born of this union.
Grave remained unmarked for many years.
Marker was placed by great-grandson, Steve Lewis Arrowood.
