Born on April 14, 1940, son of the late Charles and Julia Herbold Brown. Melvin graduated from Rome Free Academy and was employed by Rome D.D.S.O. and Rome State School for over 30 years. Melvin was formerly united in marriage to Helen Melioris Brown, with whom he shared two children, Melvin C. Brown Jr. and Julie Brown. Melvin was later married to Linda Smith Brown; they shared a blessed union until her passing.
Melvin was an active volunteer at Rome Rescue Mission alongside his wife, Linda. His love of serving others and volunteering in his community touched many lives; it was an honor for Melvin to do this work.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially going to the movies and bowling. His kind presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Julie Brown, of Lee; grandchildren, Matthew and Andrea Parker, William and Challice Parker, Faith and Shyanne Brown; great-grandchildren, Brielle, Ava and Savannah.
He was predeceased by his son, Melvin C. Brown Jr.; wife, Linda Smith Brown; former wife, Helen Melioris Brown; and his parents.
