Mr. Crowl was born January 30, 1921 in Negley, a son of the late Harry E. and Agnes J. Knight Crowl and had lived in this area all of his life. He had been employed as a self-employed truck driver for several years. Prior to that, he had worked at the former Ferris Coal Company and also the East Fairfield Coal Company.
He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Garvin, whom he married August 16, 1976; eight daughters, Cheryl Stacey of East Palestine, Joy Muntean of Columbiana, Janice Hanna of East Palestine, Peggy Puttett of Alliance, Bonnie Shaffer of Columbiana, Jennifer Divjak of Rhinelander, WI, Sarah Denny of Adams, TN, and Mary Birch of Newell, WV; nine sons, Robert Crowl of East Palestine, Jerry Crowl of Chippewa, PA, Joseph Crowl of East Palestine, Danny Barnhouse of North Lima, David Barnhouse of Guam, James Barnhouse of Lisbon, Nick Divjak and Robert Divjak, both of Montpelier, OH; and Nicholas Divjak of Rogers; three sisters, Alberta Soldo of East Palestine, Patty Huff of Negley, and Charlotte Murphy of East Palestine; two brothers, Neal Crowl of Lisbon and Harry Crowl of East Palestine; 36 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Sutherin; five sisters, Evelyn Oliver, Thelma Eaton, Ruth Mackall, Madge Stratton, and Jean Gorby; and a brother, Wilbur Crowl.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Mr. Robert Helbeck, Minister officiating. Burial in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
