Martha Louise Broadfoot Jones, 98, passed away Saturday February 5, 2022 at her home in East Ridge, Tennessee surrounded by her loving family. Martha lived a life focused on faith, family, and service to others. She enjoyed excellent health her entire life.

Martha and her twin sister, Mary, were born at home on July 17, 1923 in Lauderdale County, Alabama to Hollis Lee and Bertha Mae Perkins Broadfoot. She lived in seven states while her father worked as an engineer on TVA dam construction. She attended Murray State University before leaving to work as a TVA secretary. Martha married George Jones Jr. on August 4, 1951 in Florence, Alabama. They settled in the Chattanooga area in 1955 and proudly raised four children, each of which she loved beyond measure. She resided in East Ridge in the same home for the next seven decades.

Martha's unwavering Christian faith was the foundation of her life. A charter member of Greens Lake Road Church of Christ in 1959, for the last quarter century she worked every week in the Bible correspondence course program, providing services to prison inmates, a testament to her belief in caring 'for the least of these'.

While raising her children, Martha led Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops and served as a homeroom mother and bible school teacher. Talented and creative, she enjoyed crafts, knitting, and especially sewing. She designed and hand crafted over 200 beautiful quilts and wall hangings, gifting them to family, friends, and even acquaintances.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband George after 36 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mary Phillips, Denson, William, and John Broadfoot.

She is survived by four children – son Richard, daughter Janet Skates (husband Gene), son Steve (wife Beverly), and son Don (late wife Tricia). Martha cherished time with her eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

As a compassionate act, Martha donated her body to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or Greens Lake Road Church of Christ.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Green's Lake Road Church of Christ, 1209 Green's Lake Road, Chattanooga, TN. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be made to Hospice of Chattanooga at CHA Foundation, c/o Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or Greens Lake Road Church of Christ, 1209 Green's Lake Road Church of Christ, Chattanooga, TN.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Hospice of Chattanooga, Caregivers at Home, and Amedisys Home Health for their skilled care and kindness during Martha's final weeks.
