Enlisted to serve in the Civil War on 1 November 1861. He was a Private, Company D ,7th State Troop, He was wounded in the Battle at Gettysburg in Virginia on 12 July 1863, and died seven days later. His body was never sent home for burial. He was the son of Rigdon and Sarah Ann Pierce Heath, and the grandson of Jordan and Christina Wimberg Heath. He married Annie (Anna) E. Burch in 1860, in Augusta, Richmond County Georgia. They had one son Oliver William Heath born in 1861 and died in 1935.
