A native of Heenanville, where he was born November 28, 1892, Mr. Seroka was one of the survivors of the Cherry mine disaster in 1909, having been rescued in the last descent of a mine cage before it was subsequently destroyed by fire.
The son of Joseph and Anna (Bavolar) Seroka Sr., John A. Seroka was married to Mary Masley of Streator in this city. The family left here in 1930 and Mrs. Seroka died at Nanticoke November 17, 1954.
Survivors include a son: John Seroka Jr.; two daughters: Elizabeth (Stanley) Meck and Mary (Robert) Eintala, all of Nanticoke; and five grandchildren. Local survivors include three sisters: Emma (John) Lesak, Helen (Everill) Johnson and Betty (Milton) Klein; and a brother: Joseph Seroka.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a sister: Julia Klein of Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Nanticoke with burial in the parish cemetery.
