Miss Gertha Lewis.
After years of illness with multiple sclerosis, Miss Gertha Lee Lewis died Thursday in Mississippi, where she had lived for the last 30 years. She was 49. She had been a complete invalid the last five years.
Formerly of Hebron near New Hope, she lived in Laurel, MS. She died in a hospital at Hattisburg.
She grew up at Hebron, a daughter of John M. and Leona Holt Lewis. She graduated from Guntersville High School. Soon after that she took a job at Gadsden and lived there a year or two before going to Laurel. Her last work was as a secretary for Flintkote. She was a member of the Laurel Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Della Walker, Mrs. Gracie Hand, Mrs. Mary Canfield and Mrs. Faye Phillips of Guntersville, Mrs. Eula Cooper of Albertville and Mrs. Frances Tucker of Arab; two brothers, J. D. Lewis of Grant and L. D. Lewis of New Hope.
The funeral was held Saturday at Carr Funeral Home's Chapel in the Pines by Rev. Smith Ledbetter and Rev. O. R. Gregg. Burial was in the Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Vernon Cooper, Gene Hand, Billy Gary, and Robert and Donald Lewis.
