Nancy Jane Morris Boyd, Amboy Independent, Amboy, Miami, Indiana, Friday, March 7, 1924, page 1, column 5
Nancy Jane Boyd. Youngest of the two daughters of Ephriam and Mary Morris. Born Anderson. Madison co, Indiana. December 23, 1842. After nine weeks of patient suffering she died at her home in Converse, Ind., Saturday noon, March 1, 1924, aged 81 years, 2 months, and 8 days.

The only sister, Eliza Ellen, who is a few years older is the wife of Monroe Busby and lives a few miles north of Converse. She was unable to attend the funeral.

The father, Ephriam Morris, died while his children were very small. A few years later the mother married Peter Ellis, to whom four boys and four girls were born. Two of these half brothers, Mack and John, live in Iowa, three half sisters still live--Francene Gustin of Anderson, Ind., Clementine Pearson of Iowa and Suzie Alcott of Oregon.

While yet a little girl she preferred to make her home with an uncle, Isaac Morris, who was a real father to her. When Nancy Jane was 12 years old, she came with her uncle and family to a farm a few miles north of Amboy. One of the uncles family, Thomas Morris, of Anderson was present at the funeral.

At the age of 17 she was married in December 1859 to George Boyd and they began housekeeping on their farm where Mr. Boyd died November 3, 1916, after they had been married 57 years. To them were born two sons, Charles B. and Harvey G. She also leaves four grandchildren, Ethel and Emily, daughters of Harvey and Dessie Boyd; Lao and Lo C Boyd, son and daughter of Charles and Rhoda Boyd.

Grandma Boyd was a true pioneer in every sense of the word relating often to neighbors stories of slow travel to Somerset and Wabash, Ind., for trade.
Few women, if any, had a greater capacity or desire to accomplish difficult tasks. During her married life she and her husband united with the Friends Church at Amboy and often during her sickness she expressed a willingness and desire to be taken home.

Her labors are ended; her race is run.
