Mary came from Ohio to Madison County, Indiana from with her parents when she was very young.
She was first married to a Ephraim Morris on January 28, 1840 in Indiana. This union bore them two daughters: Elizabeth Ellen Morris (b. 1841, d. 1926) and Nancy Jane Morris (b. 1842, d. 1924). Ephraim Morris died on June 25, 1844.
After Ephraim's death, Mary's second marriage was to a Peter Ellis (b. 1804, d. 1884) on June 23, 1845 in Indiana. Together they had the following children: Francena (Guston) Ellis (b. 1846, d. 1925), William Hugh Ellis (b. 1848, d. 1920), John H Ellis (b.1851, d. 1926), Clementine (Humphrey) Ellis (b. 1852, d. 1907) & Lementine (Reason) Ellis (b. 1852, d. 1930) (twin girls), George Washington Ellis (b. 1855, d. 1910), Elizabeth R. (Lawson) Ellis (b. 1858, d. 1940), Hugh Mc Ellis (b. 1860, d. 1939).
In 1877 Mary separated from her husband, Peter Ellis. In 1879 she relocated to Marne, Iowa, the same town where her son George W. Ellis and the twin girls, Clementine Humphrey and Lementine Reason and their families lived.
In the late 1890's her widowed daughter Clementine Humphrey and her Grand Daughter Mary Verle Humphrey lived with her.

OBITUARY Mary McCallister was born in Ohio May 13, 1823; she came to Madison County, Indiana, with her parents when quite young. She was married to Ephraim Morris January 28, 1840, to which two children were born. Ephraim Morris died June 25, 1844. She was again married to Peter Ellis June 23, 1845, to which union eight more children were born. Her husband, Peter Ellis died June 23, 1884. She came west with part of her children and lived the greater part of her time in Marne, in which place she died February 12, 1904, at 11 a.m. being 80 years, 8 months and 20 days. Ten children, 42
grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren survive her, her youngest child being 44 years of age. Her children are Eliza E. Busby; Nancy J. Boyd of Converse, Indiana; Francena Gustin of Anderson, Indiana; Lemontine Reason; Clementine Humphrey; George Ellis of Marne, Iowa; William Ellis of Cromwell, Iowa; John Hugh and Mack Ellis (Hugh Mc
Ellis) of Topeka, Kansas and Elizabeth R. Olcott of Omaha, Nebraska. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday at 11 a.m. The address delivered
by the Rev. Brocket.
