He was married to Lucinda Chappel (b. 1856, d. 1933) on July 31, 1873 in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. In 1879 they relocated from Anderson, Madison County, Indiana to Marne, Cass County, Iowa and then to Avoca, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Together George and Lucinda had eight children, seven of them survived to adulthood: Mary Francis Ellis (b. 1875, d. 1895), Rose Ann (Cameron) Ellis (b. 1877, d. 1963), Melvina Ellis (b. 1879, d. 1932), Charles Mack Ellis Sr. (b. 1881, d. 1969), Thomas Ellis, (b.1883, d. 1883), Silas E. Ellis (b. 1885, d. 1958), Fred Wilber Ellis (b.1889, d. 1955), Ada Ethel (Carey) Ellis (b. 1891, d. 1974), Esther Ellis, (b. 1893, 1896) and Baby Ellis (b. 1896, d. 1896). At the time of his death George W. Ellis worked as a produce clerk in Avoca, Iowa and was on the Avoca School Board.
