James Stanley Adkins, 86, of Paxton died at 2:28 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 5, 2006) at the home of his daughter in rural Dewey.

Mr. Adkins was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Sandy Hook, Ky., a son of James Henderson and Mary Etta Click Adkins.

He married Edith K. Rayburn on Aug. 14, 1941, in Ashland, Ky. She died Feb. 21, 2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Oliger Jr. of rural Dewey; a son, David Adkins of Loda; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a half sister.

Mr. Adkins attended school in Ashland. He lived in Downs, Ashland, Buckley and Clarence before moving to Paxton in 1986.

He was a foreman for McAuliffe-McCartin Gas Co. in Champaign for many years. He was a member of Laborers Union Local No. 703, Urbana, ROTC and Hoopeston Moose Lodge. He enjoyed gardening.
