Caswell M. Hughes
Funeral services for Caswell M. Hughes, 78, of 1019 Voorhees Street, will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. from Wright and Ferguson Chapel, with the Rev. John G. McDonald, pastor of Robinson Street Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Henry G. Winstead, pastor of Byram Methodist Church.

He died early Wednesday morning at University Hospital, after an illness of several months.

He was a native of Smith County, a former resident of Clinton, and had lived in Jackson for the past 23 years. He was a former routeman for Crescent Laundry.

Mr. Hughes was a member of Robinson Street Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons until ill health caused his retirement. He was a Mason.

His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Collum Hughes; three daughters, Mrs. Denman B. Drane of Brookhaven, Mrs. Homer B. Davis of Byram, and Mrs. James W. Herod of Texas City, Texas; one son, Donald M. Hughes of Yazoo City; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Francis Barnes of Collierville, Tenn.

Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be B. M. Holbrook, Ford Canterbury, Carroll Hughes, Albert Hughes, all of Jackson, Roy Hughes of Forest, Howard Hughes of Crystal Springs and Myron Thompson of New Orleans, La.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Norman Burnstein, Roe Sanders, Jim Burgess, Ted Brown, Lawson Harbour, Herbert Blough, Charles Strahan, all of Jackson, Rev. Robert Ledbetter of Talladega Ala., Dick Millar of Falls Church, Va., and members of Board of Stewards of Robinson Street Baptist Church.
